Coco Jones is stepping out of the Banks mansion and into her own series. Peacock is developing Hilary, a Bel-Air spinoff centered on Hilary Banks, with Jones reprising the role she's played across all four seasons of the show. Tracy Oliver, the writer behind Girls Trip and the Harlem series, is writing the spinoff. Will Smith and his Westbrook Studios are producing.

The logline puts Hilary in New York after accepting a job offer from celebrity chef Yvonne Durand. She moves impulsively, determined to prove herself beyond her Bel-Air name, and quickly discovers that success, friendship, and love in the city have a cost she didn't see coming.

It's a sharp setup for a character who spent four seasons being one of the most entertaining people on screen. Hilary Banks in New York, making her own way, with no safety net of the family mansion behind her? Tracy Oliver writing it? That's a show.

Oliver's track record makes this feel like a real creative investment, not just a spin on a familiar name. Girls Trip was sharp, funny, and commercially huge. Harlem found an audience by centering ambitious, complex Black women in New York without reducing them to caricatures. The Hilary logline is right in her lane.

The executive producer list runs deep. Jones and Oliver both produce, alongside Will Smith, Terence Carter and Westbrook, Benny Medina (who produced the original Fresh Prince), Andy and Susan Borowitz, Morgan Cooper, the Jeff Pollack trust and the Quincy Jones estate.

In the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air series finale, Hilary Banks moved to New York. The new spinoff picks up that thread and plants it inside the world of the Bel-Air reboot. If it gets ordered, Bel-Air will become Peacock's first scripted original series to generate a spinoff.

Coco Jones's Hilary had the blessing of Karyn Parsons, who originated the role in the early '90s, before Jones ever shot a single scene. She has spent four seasons making the character her own, bringing warmth and dimension to someone who could have easily stayed surface level. The show being built around her now feels earned.

No series order has been announced yet, but Deadline confirmed the project is in development at Peacock as of August 25, 2026.
